Round these parts...

Thanks for the breaky break peeps, I needed it for sure.

The creative juices were dammed up behind a lot of stress and I didn't feel like posting crap truth be told. After giving up taking a break from working out (going to the Dr. 10 weeks into a VIGOROUS exercise program/diet change and finding out that you haven't lost any weight will do that to you) I'm back in the game. Vanity aside, I function better, as a wife and especially as a Mom when I get a work out in. Stress relieved (for the most part), heart and body and Mommy healthier and happier.
5:30 am comes way too early though!

I don't have an amazing comeback post unfortunately (just some random stuff), but I need to post something because looking at those pictures of my baby all wired up every time I come to check my blog roll is KILLING me!
Told you, they make me super sad to look at.

Onward and upward!

Last week I cooked up two of my favorite pizza's for the hubs and I.
Thai Peanut Chicken and Caramelized Onion, Pear and Blue Cheese.

They are sooooooo good!!!!

Too good not to share.......

I made mine on whole wheat naan this time around but you can use whatever crust you like.

The Thai Peanut has peanut sauce, duh, grilled chicken, dry roasted peanuts, cilantro and mandarin oranges. You can also add red bell pepper, which is good but gives me major heartburn so, no bueno.

For the other, caramelize some sweet onions in a pan. Layer those with some sliced pears, more grilled chicken (I had a bunch left from the other pizza but this is just as good without it) and blue cheese, drizzle with a good quality olive oil. I like to add pine nuts too but didn't have any on hand.

I topped both with mozzarella cheese but you can use whatever you like, provolone would be good too. I also use sliced cheese instead of grated, I don't like a ton of cheese and the slices melt thin and perfect.

Cook and enjoy!

I've made some changes in the dining room over the past few weeks.
New light fixture (old one is going in the stairwell by our back door).

Brass and acrylic beauty....$20 on Craigslist.

Also here is my new free dining set.

^ Buzz Lightyear's down for the count

Vintage parsons beauty my uncle gave us and vintage brass Chromcraft  Breuer style chairs, new upholstery soon, from an old church friend (thanks Sandy!!!)

LOVE!!!!

I've been working on getting the living room painted this week, one wall at a time. Anyone else  do that? I usually clear the room and just knock it out but I can't do that when I'm home with all three boys. So, I've been blocking one side of the room off with furniture and painting. It's been chaos but it's slowly getting done.

I also painted the bookshelf in question, the white is the wall color (Swiss Coffee by Behr) and the black is high gloss oil based Rustoleum.

 Nice non styling huh?

I especially like the sunglasses that a certain one year old threw up there.

Art is changing, shelves will be properly styled but it's progress none the less.
(See my wicker mini peacock chair? It was fifty cents at a garage sale :)

I'm still, still, STILL not done with our bedroom.

Headboard needs nail head trim, art needs some tweaking and nightstands need some love but I still love the color-Billiard Table in high gloss by Behr.

I really, really love the way our crappy shutter closet doors look painted!
I think if I had the chance to swap them out for solid panel doors I wouldn't.

Remember the ottoman I made? I'm working on making two for a friend of mine and I'm going to take some pictures and show you the whole process......soon. I also need to make another one for myself, sold that one. :)

Hope you are having a great week!

It's good to be back.

PS- I just watched Atonement this week.
Have you seen it?
How have I not until now?!??

Absolutely amazing and I totally did the ugly cry at the end.

Watch it!!!

Bookcase Paint

Okay, quick......black bookcase with white shelves/back
or white bookcase with black shelves/back?

Or color on the back:

It will be going on a white wall behind this pair of blue chairs.

This gives you an idea of what else is going on in my living room.

Pretty sure I'm going with black frame and white shelves/back.

You might be able to persuade me though, so spill it....which one would you choose??

Red.

I have never really been a fan of it!

Lipstick yes, home decor not so much. With the exception of vintage textiles of course, those always look good in red!

Until recently I haven't had any red in my home.....and hardly any in my closet for that matter. Lately I haven't been able to get it out of my head though, I've been drawn to anything and everything red.

For me red in a home can get really tacky REALLY fast. I mean how many single red "accent walls" have we all seen!? (If you have one and love it, then more power to you it's just not my cup of tea.)

While I haven't been the hugest fan, there are plenty of homes where red is very well done.

                                                    (all images via Pinterest)

I like red in other peoples homes when it is done well but it's always been a hard color to get right in my own home.

Last week I ordered this rug from esalerugs.com (who by the way is having an end of season sale that ends tonight. Up to 50% off, free rug pad and an additional 10% when you buy 2 or more rugs....GO NOW!!!!). Let me just tell you it is beautiful and the quality is outstanding! The best part? We were on a very tight budget and a 7x10 was only $150.
SCORE!
It will be going in our master bedroom with some dark emerald green walls (Behr's Billiard Table)...so pretty!

Last fall I spray painted this light fixture for the boys' room. Red is pretty effortless and a big go-to color in a boys room but it can also seem a little too juvenile sometimes. This fixture is timeless in red and will work just as well in the room when they are older.

Here are some other red things I've been loving lately

So tell me,do you use red often in your home??

Black trim

Since I'll be painting our living room, dining/kitchen and hallway the same shade of white (still need to get some samples), I'm seriously thinking about painting all the trim/doors/windows black.

We unfortunately don't have any crown molding, just baseboards and door/window trim. There is also two sets of built in cabinets that I would probably paint black. One at the end of the hallway (linen storage) and a china cabinet/pantry on the wall leading into the kitchen from the living room.

For white/ivory rooms it adds so much interest!

Will it look stupid with no crown molding?

Thoughts???

Bavarian Forest

I saw this post over at Little Green Notebook this week and have decided our master bedroom must be this color!

Paint woes

For the past couple months I've been thinking of painting....again. The living room has been painted twice already since we moved in a year and a half ago.

Here is the color now, furniture is all different of course.

It's a very pale blue/gray.

Which was beautiful when I first painted it (we hadn't ripped out the carpet yet). I had always planned on buying a jute/sisal rug after we took out the carpets, hence the cooler wall color. However when rug plan A changed we ended up getting this beautiful silvery/mint area rug. I love it, it's the perfect color.
However, with the 'cool' paint color and rug it's too cold, the wall color needs to be warmer.

I'm thinking it needs to be a warm white, just not too yellow.

Here is where you come in-my computer monitor is on the fritz and looks like a static-y TV (Migraine city y'all!) so I can't tell what anything looks like.

I'm thinking something  like this:

(I'm going with a warm white because of my plans for our kitchen, which I'll be sharing soon. Whatever wall color I pick will most likely be on the upper cabinets/open shelves.)

Here is (similar to) what I have going on in the living room right now:

I just need help picking a paint color. Pretty sure it'll have to be Behr paint at this point, oh Farrow and Ball I need you in Montana!

I'm thinking Cottage White (on the china cabinet)

Too yellow? Let me know what you think because on my computer monitor I can't tell.

I REALLY need to get it fixed!

Living Room Evolution

Well, I've held off as long as I can in showing you our living room....it's not finished, nor will it ever be. If you know me at all I'm always moving furniture and painting something. It's like therapy.

Anyway, I've been promising some pictures for about two months now...sorry. Life with two little boys while growing another one inside me is kind of crazy!

This what the living room used to look like...........

(Sorry for the poor picture quality!)

I repainted about 5 months ago after we discovered the finish on the existing paint would not work. It was marked as satin but covered like flat....flat paint and young children are not a good mix! I chose a pale gray and repainted the living, dining room and hallway. Moved in the refinished china cabinet and made some pillows in pretty pastel shades.

After about two weeks the pastels got to be a little too much for me. So, onto plan B (have I told you how much I LOVE my hubby?). We sold the china cabinet, brought up an antique dresser from the basement and I painted it black. I also painted the outside of the light fixture black. I moved around the art and the pillows and here's what we have now.......

I'm sure it will be rearranged again but for now this set up works really well with the kids. They have the ottoman and tv cabinet for storage, plus the basket in the corner. The room is more open now and much easier to clean at the end of the day. There's also plenty of room for the mountains of baby things that will be taking over soon.

We still plan on ripping out the carpet sometime this summer but we're waiting on baby first. ;)

Speaking of which I have an appointment this afternoon, can't wait!!
