Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful boy........

One year ago today our lives changed forever.

Our third son, Isaac Asher was born via C-section on Friday evening,  June 15th. He was having breathing trouble and was taken to the NICU immediately. After doing a chest X-ray the doctors discovered that he had a pneumothorax.

pneumothorax occurs when the tiny air sacs
(alveoli) in a baby’s lung burst, leaking air into the
space between the lung and chest wall (pleural
space). He spent the next ten days in the NICU,
was given a chest tube, put on a ventilator, had an
IV through his umbilical cord and a cut down picc
line. He was on medication for his blood pressure and circulation, a steroid for lung development, a couple antibiotics and was sedated so he didn't try to pull out the ventilator.

Our first 'family photo' with poor Isaac strapped down (they were getting ready to insert the picc line.)

These pictures are so hard for me to look at because this experience/pain is still so fresh to me (I wonder if it will always seem that way?) but they are also an amazing testimony of God's goodness!

When he was four days old he was finally able to have the chest tube and ventilator removed and I was able to hold him for the first time.

Oh how I just wanted to hold him all night long. Empty arms are such a strange feeling after you've just had a baby.

By the 25th of June, Isaac was finally weaned off of the oxygen and able to come home.

Since he came home from the hospital he has been as healthy as a horse and is quite literally built like one. If not for the faint scars from the picc line and the chest tube (and the first attempt at one that didn't go so well), you would never think that he had such a rough start to life!

He is always smiling, unless he is unleashing his crazy temper-kid needs anger management!  His big brothers absolutely adore him, sometimes a little too much.
He's the kind of child that you just have to be happy around, he's like a little sun, always shining.
He definitely lives up to his name, Isaac means he who laughs and Asher means happy. :)

Happy first birthday to our sweet, curly haired baby!
We love you so much Isaac!
