I got it at my local ReStore!
(Please excuse my messy desk in the background!)

Kitchen/Dining Plans

I found this old magazine pic this week, it's Leah Ball Steen's (Owner of Revival Home and Garden in Seattle) kitchen banquette.

I'm not totally sold on the table but I'm loving everything else!

I plan on doing a similar L shaped banquette in our dining room in the future. The plan is to move the dishwasher flush against the wall next to the sink instead of having the peninsula.

The cabinets on the right of the dishwasher aren't even functional anyway and it will open up the space more. The plan also includes new appliances....like I said this is a FUTURE plan! : )    The refrigerator that we have now is HUGE and sticks out way too far into the dining area.With a smaller counter depth fridge I can have a much bigger dining table and seat more than four people comfortably.

I plan to rip out that hideous faux rock, along with the carpet (the first time I typed that I spelled it crapet...I might as well have it's so gross! Kids + carpet in a dining area = All sorts of nastiness!) and have an L shaped banquette built running up the wall into the corner and under the window. It will run all the way to the base cabinet/dishwasher on the right.

Kind of like this (by Mary McDonald):

I think it will be beautiful and MUCH more functional, now to just wait and save!

Quiet Time

  Today is the Sanctity of Human Life Sunday.
 (8 weeks after conception)

Psalm 139:13-16
" For you created my inmost being;
   you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
   your works are wonderful,
   I know that full well.
(12 weeks after conception)

 My frame was not hidden from you
   when I was made in the secret place,
   when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
(16 weeks after conception)

Your eyes saw my unformed body;
   all the days ordained for me were written in your book
   before one of them came to be."
(22 weeks after conception)
 "Fight against the kind of social stupor that gripped Nazi Germany — the feeling that the problem is so huge and so horrendous and so out of our control that I just can't be wrong to let it be. Use your imagination to see and feel what is really happening behind those sterile clinic doors.
If you could see each little handiwork of God and what it looks like when it is being crushed or poisoned or ...starved, you would say, this can't be happening! Civilized people do not do this! The children will not be saved and God's work will not be reverenced without an act of sustained sympathetic imagination. Otherwise it is out of sight, out of mind — just like Dachau, Buchenwald, Belsen, and Auschwitz. It just couldn't be happening. And so we act as if it isn't.

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, "Behold, we did not know this," does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your souls know it, and will he not requite man according to his work? (Proverbs 24:10–12)

You know.....like that Jeopardy! catagory with a little of everything.

I got this lotion for Christmas and it smells SO good!!!

Read this book (LOVE!) and changed a lot of stuff around our house this week.

Really needed it, thanks Mom!

And speaking of my Mom, this tile backsplash is being installed in my parents kitchen this week.

This tile is much less yellow in person! It's a beautiful creamy neutral and I can't wait to see it all done!!

I've been helping them with their kitchen remodel since last summer. It has included new appliances, cabinets, countertops, sink and fixtures, paint, lighting and hardware, and now the backsplash. Flooring will be next, I know my parents are anxious to get this all done.  We've also been working on their office and guest bedroom, I'll be taking some pictures to post soon. The next order up is their master bedroom and bath.

For Christmas I helped my Dad pick out some gorgeous Coral prints and a pair of lamps my Mom had been eyeing for a while. The lamps are similar to this one.

We found them at Ross, they are beautiful and the quality is outstanding! Imagine them against some creamy chocolate walls....yummy! Hopefully this weekend the weather will warm up so we can get out of the house and go look at some paint colors, it's been -30 for the past three days!! Can't wait for it to warm up!

This week I also started (home) school with Jude.  Stanley and I were both home schooled, him almost his whole life and me just through high school. I LOVED being home schooled!!! I got to work part time, play basketball and volleyball and travel a TON with my Aunts. It's also where Stanley and I met!  We made the choice before we had children that we would home school as well and I am really excited to get started! We have this AWESOME curriculum from Timberdoodle and he is LOVING it, as am I! He keeps asking if he can do more school work.....I wonder how long that will last!?

Also getting REALLY excited for Valentines Day because we have our big ultrasound that day! Do you think since it's a "pink" day we'll be having a girl??    ; )

The BEST resource for ribbon and trims

  The possibilities are endless for using ribbon and other fabric trims.

On curtains of course.

(Also notice the pom pom trim on the bed quilt and pillowcases...great way to liven up store bought bedding! Grosgrain trim on the lampshade as well.)

Jazz up a lampshade.

Love using it on pillows!

How about on an ottoman?

Or a DIY greek key Roman shade

And don't forget your upholstery!!
