Blessed Assurance

Thank you guys for the few emails about yesterdays post. Precious baby Faith was born via cesarean and lived for two hours.

As I get older things really hit me harder, it probably isn't a specific age but most likely when I became a mother. I wasn't calloused or unfeeling before but when we're younger we don't think about how fragile life really is.  The older I get the more death impacts my life. I know it is a good thing because it really makes me stop and be present in every moment but sometimes I feel guilty for it.

To grieve and be joyful at the same time is a double edged sword. It's a humbling thought that my friend's arms are empty tonight while our three precious boys sleep soundly in our house. I have so many things to be thankful for (don't we all!),  family and friends, my husband, my children, and most importantly for blessed assurance

Please continue to pray for our friends, thank you!

Faith

"A faith that perseveres through suffering makes a powerful statement about the object of such faith. The human response to pain and suffering is to curse God (Revelation 16:8-11 & 21). Persevering faith shouts for our attention and hallows God's name because it is immovably fixed in absolute confidence in the Lord."

Disciplines of a Godly Woman

The past few months have been some of the darkest for a few of our friends, especially for a family from our church. They are pregnant with their ninth child, a little girl who they've named Faith. Early on in the pregnancy Faith was diagnosed with  Trisomy 18

Even when we have hope it's heartbreaking to watch those you know and love suffer.

Tomorrow Faith will be delivered via cesarean, she is only expected to live a few hours. Please pray for this family as they face what may be their darkest day yet.

Thank you!

When you're wondering: How God Feels About Storms?

"When the guy on the screen says that he could hear the cries of children underneath the rubble, his voice starts to crack and how in the world does anything stand in a world like this?

How do you just put a jug of milk out on the table on a Tuesday and stand there watching your kids eat breakfast, light in their hair, the sky hanging outside the window like a potential Behemoth, when there’s a dad with his heart running liquid down his cheeks  in Oklahoma, waiting for them to dig out the body of his crumpled boy.

How does the sky just suddenly spin mad on a muggy Monday afternoon in the middle of side-street America and 24 school kids never come home to their moms and peanut butter sandwiches again?
How does the sky just rage unannounced, storm black and pelt us flat?
They said they found 7 of those little kids just wanting their mamas, found them all drowned in a pool of water.
Who can stand when your heart’s flooded with grief?
God’s overflows.
“… his heart was filled with pain.” {Gen 6:6}
God has a heart. And it hurts. Not with just with a a few drops of ache, not just with a slow drip of sadness — His whole massive heart fills, swells, burns with this raw, relentless pain.
In the midst of the storm, all the emptiness of God floods with pain.

What grieving mother in Oklahoma could wake up today and forget her little one,  could forget the way she smelled, the way her hair fell, the way his arms felt around her neck — what mother could just up and forget her always-baby?
And God whispers hoarse: That mother whose heart is bound to her child’s — doesn’t compare to how your Father’s heart is bound to you. {Isa 49:15}
The Lord of the Universe, He’s lashed Himself to us. And He didn’t need to. But He tied the knot Himself. God who hung the stars, He takes a thread of His heart and ties His to ours. God tied His heart to yours so when you feel pain — He fills with shattering pain.
So when we howl: “If there’s a God who really cares, He’d look at this world and His heart would break.”
And God looks to the Cross and says -- My heart did.
God’s heart breaks.
On that Cross — they speared His side and pierced straight into His heart filled with pain and it was the water and blood of His right broken heart that gushed right out.
It’s the quantum physics of God: one broken heart always breaks God’s in two.  We never cry alone.
And our crying God, He catches every tear in His bottle — God catches every falling tear because He’s keeping us from falling apart.
I can’t turn away from the screen, from the father in Oklahoma brushing away the tears.

And all I can think is — God tied His heart to ours — and the tears of God are the essence of Time.
Time only continues on in this impossibly suffering world — because God Himself is willing to keep suffering the impossible with us.
That’s what we all share — that He shares the grief with us and reasoning is cold and His embrace is warm.
The Farmer tells me that they are calling for rain today.
Somewhere across the mid-west, they’re calling for rain.
And I can only nod, not trusting my voice not to break, trusting only His broken heart.
Trusting how it comes in storms –
these, the falling tears of God."

On my heart lately....

I'm still here believe it or not.

The past month has been a very difficult one. One that knocked me down and left me breathless at times.

A couple weeks ago my parents came over to watch the boys while I had a 7 am root canal. Which by the way was EXACTLY like the horror stories you hear about. I'm not sure how many shots I had, I lost count after the eleventh. I do know that three of them were directly into the root of my tooth. Oh and I had an ear infection at the time.

When I finally drug myself up our front stairs at almost 10 am I was shocked to see my husband inside. He was supposed to be working all day (which was why my parents were watching the boys). He was talking to my Mom, I could see her smiling through the window. I wondered why he was home but everything seemed fine. When I got inside though I could tell everything was not fine.

He had been suspended indefinitely, without pay. They would let him know within two weeks whether they were going to actually fire him or 'find something else' within the company for him. The last two or three managers in his position had the same thing happen and were eventually fired. It didn't look good. (*I don't want to get into details or bash the company at all but this was pretty unwarranted.)

At the time, for some reason I thought this was slightly humorous, comical even.

I blame the novocaine.

My hubby didn't think it was funny at all. I don't blame him. He is the sole source of income for our family but more than that he is a dedicated and extremely hard worker. His work ethic is one of the things I most admire and love about him. He would flip burgers and scrub toilets for 18 hours a day if that's what he had to do.....and he would do it with a smile on his face. He had worked his butt off, given more than I EVER would have to this job for almost three years. Worked almost every holiday and all of our birthdays, worked so many open to closes (12+ hours) when people would call in that I lost count. He was devastated.

He had almost a week 'off' before they fired him. We made the most of the time we had and it was actually a really nice vacation! We painted our bedroom finally, cleaned out the garage, set up the boys' new swing set.

He got a new (old-he worked there before) job and started this week. He'll have to work part time a few nights a week to make up for the pay cut but things are good, God is good! Looking back I'm amazed at how everything fell into place. We complained about getting our tax return a month later than expected but it got us through the four weeks of no paychecks. I had the bulk of my costly dental work done while we still had insurance. My husband and I had almost three weeks together, the most 'vacation' we've had in almost nine years of marriage. We stood and knelt together in faith, knowing that God had a plan for our family, that He would see us through and provide for us. There were days when I worried,  I mean if things got bad enough we could lose our house. I still worry some days but I know I don't need to.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

I'll be back next week with some room tours!! :)

Have yourself a Merry little Christmas

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
Isaiah 9:6

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
John 1:14

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”
Luke 2:10-14

What really matters....

Like everyone I was shocked by the shooting last Friday in CT.  I actually didn't even know about it until about lunch time as I hadn't been on the internet or turned the TV on all morning. After I put my kids down for their naps I sat and watched the reports for a while, it was absolutely heartbreaking.

Friday was a busy day for us so after a few minutes I turned the TV off and went about the rest of my day. I prayed a lot that afternoon!

That night my two older boys were having a sleepover at my parents house, it was Phin's (who is two) first night away from us. Stanley and I decided to go out to dinner to celebrate our anniversary, better late than never right?! When we got home I fed Isaac and put him in bed.

Before I got in bed that night I went to close the doors to Jude and Phins rooms. As I quietly tip toed down the hallway I wondered how many parents in Connecticut were doing the same thing but for a very different reason.

My heart hurts for them.

I think that horrific situations like this make us stop and really examine what we are doing with our lives. At least it did for me.

There are a lot of things that I don't understand or know, because 'His ways are not my ways and His thoughts are not my thoughts' (Isaiah 55:8). However, I do know that my time here is short. My life and the lives of my children are not in my control. I am a steward of these precious boys, they do not belong to me.

That got me thinking....am I being a good steward?

What am I doing with the time that I have been given?!

It's a question that I have really been meditating on the past few weeks and the answers that I have come up with are shameful to say the least.

Though life is complex and overwhelming at times what I should be doing with said time is quite simple...........love God and love others.

"'Jesus replied, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it:'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments'' Matthew 22:37-40

My priorities are changing........are yours?
